Welcome to Michigan NENA!

The Michigan chapter supports NENA's mission to foster the technological advancement, availability and implementation of a universal emergency telephone number system (911).  In carrying out its mission, NENA promotes research, planning, training and education.  The protection of human life, the preservation of property the maintenance of general community security are among NENA's many objectives.

January MI-NENA Updates

Happy New Year to all of our NENA Members! To kick off the New Year right, we will have our FIRST ever combined APCO & NENA meeting on Friday, January 20th at 10:00 a.m. in Sterling Heights. There will be an ENP Study Group session prior to the meeting from 8-9:30 a.m. Click here for further information.

It is my pleasure to announce the following MI-NENA appointments for 2012:
SNC Representative - Pat Coates
Member At Large – Mark Jongekrijg
Member At Large and NDC Representative - Mike Muskovin

MI-NENA Committee work:
ENP Recruitment and Training Committee: responsible for actively recruiting NENA members who are or may be interested in obtaining their ENP credentials. This committee helps to establish study groups and coordinates training sessions for prospective ENP’s. Committee Chair, Don Glasgow can be contacted at glasgowd@barry911.org.

Public Education Committee: responsible for collecting, data warehousing and creating public education materials for PSAP’s to use in various situations. This committee will work with the MI-NENA webmaster to create a page to house the information. Committee Chair, Jill Fish can be contacted at jfish@calhouncountymi.gov.

Michigan Standards for NCMEC: responsible for working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to establish a Standard for Michigan PSAP’s when receiving and processing calls regarding missing children. Committee Chair, Suzanne Cratin can be contacted at scratin@midland911.org.

By-Law Review Committee: short term committee responsible for reviewing the current By-Laws and make recommendations to the Board of any changes that need to be made. Committee Chair, Mark Jongekrijg can be contacted at mjongekrijg@occda.org.

Training Committee: responsible for coordinating with APCO and MCDA to combine training whenever possible. Responsible to work with the MI-NENA webmaster to update training materials on our website. When necessary may create and/or ensure distribution of training materials for Michigan’s PSAP’s. Committee Chair, Jeri Tapper can be contacted at tapperje@vbco.org.

A big thank-you goes out to those individuals who have chosen to take on leadership roles within your NENA Chapter. Their hard work and dedication is appreciated. If you are interested in participating in any of the committee’s please contact the Chair of that committee.

For those of you who are planning to attend the National Development Conference (NDC) in February, we are putting together a Michigan NENA attendee contact list. Please send me your contact information and I will send the completed list out to all attending.

9-1-1 Goes to Washington will be March 26-29th. This is an amazing opportunity for 9-1-1 Professionals to educate our National Elected Officials of the challenges facing 9-1-1 today. See the National NENA website for further information.

APCO & NENA will be hosting training towards the end of March. Please be watching for the training announcement that will be coming soon.

Michigan NENA Conference is May 21-23 at the Lexington Lansing Hotel, with a pre-conference course scheduled for May 20th. Please watch the Michigan NENA website for further details as they are available.

Michigan NENA’s 2012 Annual Conference will be May 20-23, 2012 and will be held in Lansing, MI.   This ‘Call for Papers’ invites industry associates and professionals to submit a written proposal to be added to the conference educational track.
